Greening The Event
The tradeshow industry is second only to the construction industry in the amount of waste it generates. So, a 'zero waste' tradeshow poses a special challenge. To meet the challenge, we hired the best Operations Team in the business that specializes in waste diversion and resource recovery.

Here are a few things we'll be doing to reduce our impact:

At the Event

  • Vinyl table covers will be replaced by linen.
  • Event signage is made with recyclable, reusable or biodegradable materials.
  • Event collateral is printed on a "green printer" with vegetable-based inks and recyclable paper.
  • Food sold at the event will be packaged in biodegradable, compostable food ware.
  • Biodegradable cornstarch or potato plates and utensils are mandated.
  • All food served at the event is local, organic, and vegetarian fare.
  • Implementation of a carbon offsetting program will reduce emissions generated by equipment, heating/cooling, shipping, and electricity.
  • Resource Recovery Stations are placed throughout the facility. Now this doesn’t sound exciting…BUT…an anticipated 90% or higher landfill diversion is expected through this effort. Exhibitors will not receive wastebaskets in their booths, rather, the waste stream is strictly controlled and diverted. Each RR station will be hosted by a knowledgeable and friendly volunteer ready to tell you which of your items is recyclable, compost, or landfill.
  • Complimentary purified water is provided on-site by Pure Water Science and will be served in biodegradable cups to eliminate plastic water bottles

Lodging

  • We encourage out of town guests to stay at hotels that are members of the California Green Lodging Program or other green hospitality groups.

Travel

  • Public transportation and/or carpooling encouraged
  • City car share program – www.citycarshare.org
  • Green and hybrid car rentals

What you can do! Did You Know...?

  • The average office worker discards 175 lbs of paper each year
  • Businesses use more than 2 million tons of paper in copiers each year
  • Americans receive over 4 million tons of junk mail a year, most of which gets landfilled or incinerated
  • Only 1% of the water on the planet is drinkable
  • A faucet with a slow leak can waste 10 gallons of water per day
  • A leaking toilet can waste over 100 gallons of water in a day
  • You can get rebates for water-efficient fixtures from www.bewaterwise.com
  • An improperly tuned car produces 10-15 times more pollution than a properly tuned one
  • If a commuter car in the US carried just one more passenger, we would save 600,000 gallons of gas and reduce air emissions by 12 million pounds of CO2 every day!

Here are some easy ideas that help a lot!!

  • Carpool with others people you work with
  • Recycle! It’s really easy to do, and if you’re not sure, recycle it anyways. Recyclers know what they can use, and it’s the effort that really helps!
  • Use compact fluorescent lighting. You may pay a few cents more up front, but it’ll last seven years and can save 15-25% on your overall power bill.
  • Use Aerators or screens on your sinks. They’re small, they’re cheap and they can help you to conserve over 30% of the water you use
  • Put a brick in your toilet tank. The average toilet uses 5 gallons of water for every flush. A couple of bricks in the tank will save you water and money and won’t affect your toilet.
  • Buy organic, natural, and Fair Trade products. They may cost a little more but they are making a world of difference.
  • Recycle your electronics! Batteries, Televisions, Cell phones, and computers are loaded with potentially hazardous chemicals.
